Save the media is inspired by a survey conducted by the Centre Mediamonitor Minor, Sapienza University of Rome, on the mechanisms of representation of the relationship between media and children from the Italian journalistic system, and it extends the reflection on the critical issues that characterize the new generations in the postmodern society. The book has two interpretive lenses to analyse this topic: the first, called "im-mediate", introduces the network of the sociological problems that synthesize and revive the debate on young people in the conceptual and empirical-pragmatic way, according to a reasoning connective hypertext, which doesn't always have an adequate scientific and methodological support. The second, called "mediated", talks about young people using the semantic and syntactic language of the newspapers. In this second part of the book, we reproduce the main results of the research, Save the media, about the discrepancy of the relationship between reality and its media representation, that often influences the dynamics of socialization of young people through the digital media. In this regard, there are still several open issues in the field of journalistic communication in the book : 1. the bias of journalists towards the aesthetic dimension at the expense of an ethical sense; 2. the need for a code of self-regulation for the newspapers guarantor of quality, accountability, and awareness for media production systems; 3. the social problem of contamination of the newspapers in the processes of socio-cultural construction of public opinion, even when the relationship between children and media are considered; 4. the issue for which the distortion of information increases expressive and behavioural inter-generational gaps, contributing to remove the younger generation from the reading of the newspapers; 5. the importance of developing autonomy and critical thinking in the system of cultural production and consumption.
Save the media trae ispirazione da una ricerca realizzata dall’Osservatorio Mediamonitor Minori della Sapienza Università di Roma sui meccanismi di rappresentazione del rapporto fra media e minori da parte del sistema giornalistico, per estendere la riflessione ad una mappa semantica più ampia sui nodi critici che contraddistinguono le nuove generazioni nel postmoderno. Gli sguardi di generazione utilizzati come lenti interpretative di questo libro sono di due tipi: quello “im-mediato” che introduce il network sociologico delle criticità che sintetizzano e rilanciano il dibattito sui giovani dal punto di vista concettuale ed empirico-pragmatico, secondo un ragionamento connettivo ipertestuale, che non sempre trova un adeguato supporto scientifico e metodologico. Lo sguardo “mediato” del libro racconta i giovani utilizzando come filtro semantico e sintattico il linguaggio della carta stampata. In questa seconda parte, si ripropongono i risultati della ricerca, Save the media, relativa alla discrepanza del rapporto fra la realtà e la sua rappresentazione mediale, spesso incidente sulle dinamiche di socializzazione dei giovani attraverso i media digitali. A riguardo, permangono ancora diverse questioni aperte nel campo della comunicazione giornalistica: - lo sbilanciamento verso la dimensione estetica a discapito di un senso etico; - l’esigenza di un codice di autoregolamentazione per la carta stampata e on line garante di qualità, responsabilità e consapevolezza mediale dei sistemi produttivi; - il problema sociale della contaminazione socioculturale dei giornali nei processi di costruzione dell’opinione pubblica, anche quando entrano in gioco i minori e i media; - la questione per cui la distorsione informativa incrementa gap espressivi e comportamentali intergenerazionali, contribuendo a un allontanamento delle nuove generazioni alla lettura del giornale, troppo distante dal vissuto giovanile; - l’importanza di sviluppare autonomia e senso critico nel sistema di produzione e consumo culturale per restituire alla stampa il suo ruolo di sistema informativo il più possibile vicino alla realtà.
