Conoscenza e restauro dell’architettura: ruolo e casistica delle tecnologie

Retracing the themes of restoration from the point of view of science and techniques of preservation allows you to watch a different perspective to problems that often face in architecture. If an argument on the relationship between total restoration and technologies does not resolve in a definitive manner the issues raised (too tied to the changing human sensitivity to the past are the reasons of the first, too fast and unpredictable growth of the second), the ongoing verification the role and purpose of the technologies in the restoration, in a general reflection, such as the one proposed in the paper, but also in the overall picture of the individual conservation problem expressed by a building or a work of historical and artistic value, constitutes the ' only guarantee for the conduct of an activity, devoid of an original attribution of meaning, is likely to arise at the turn of the bland entertainment operations and clear manifestation of human inability to establish a fruitful relationship between past, present and future.

L’architettura si è modificata nel tempo anche attraverso la trasformazione della sua tecnica, intesa come bagaglio di solide conoscenze operative che venivano attuate tramite l’impiego di strumenti e materiali di lunga durata. Si è avvertita la necessità di offrire un approfondimento delle questioni teoretiche del restauro sotto la particolare angolazione del ruolo delle tecnologie, con particolare riferimento ai principi di reversibilità, compatibilità, distinguibilità, ai fini e ai mezzi del restauro, al rapporto fra scienza, tecnica, tecnologia e restauro, alla casistica esistente. Ripercorrere le tematiche del restauro dal punto di vista della scienza e delle tecniche della conservazione consente di guardare in una prospettiva diversa a problemi che si affrontano spesso in architettura. Se un ragionamento complessivo sul rapporto fra restauro e tecnologie non risolve in maniera definitiva le questioni sollevate (troppo legate alla mutevole sensibilità dell’uomo verso il passato sono le ragioni del primo, troppo veloce e imprevedibile è la crescita della seconda), la verifica costante del ruolo e delle finalità delle tecnologie nel restauro, in una riflessione generale, come quella proposta nel saggio, ma anche nel quadro d’insieme del singolo problema conservativo espresso da un edificio o da un’opera di valore storico-artistico, costituisce l’unica garanzia per la conduzione di un’attività che, priva di una originaria attribuzione di senso, rischia di porsi a cavallo fra il blando intrattenimento operativo e la chiara manifestazione dell’incapacità umana d’istituire una proficua relazione fra passato, presente e futuro.
