It was shown that the negative effects seen in smokers might be related to the oxidative degradation of carotenoids. Rapid beta-carotene oxidation leads to the nonenzymatic formation of cleavage products. The major part of these products is comprised of aldehydes or epoxides, which have a high reactivity toward biomolecules and might exert carcinogenic action in cells.

Abstract
It was shown that the negative effects seen in smokers might be related to the oxidative degradation of carotenoids. Rapid beta-carotene oxidation leads to the nonenzymatic formation of cleavage products. The major part of these products is comprised of aldehydes or epoxides, which have a high reactivity toward biomolecules and might exert carcinogenic action in cells.File allegati a questo prodotto
