Abstract

The GRA becomes Boulevard. A new Ci ty Road Link is created l ike the American Parkway Urban and territorial integration project of the new mobility structure - south sector of Rome. The third section of the book argues about design experimentation. In order to evaluate the project of the mobility system designed for Rome, it is important to take into account the effects unfolded on the territory and the city in terms of new spatial solutions. To this extent all those elements related to the supposed mobility network have to be engaged in this project. Therefore, it is appropriate to present an essay which describes all the multiform projects proposals for different areas, knots, pathways in order to depict possible scenarios, landscapes and architecture that are capable to spread out from them. These are nothing less than structure/images that evoke new configurations within the Roman metropolitan landscape, such as the Raccordo Anulare surroundings - by offering public transportation to such an extent they can rebrand it in terms of function, rule and image- the territories diverted by the new boulevard - from the Roma/Civitavecchia highway to the A1 Roma/Napoli junction -, the consolari and local streets and the surrounding settlements in the urban countryside. It is not appropriate to restrict the wider complexities of the city and its dimension within a drawing, even if in terms of diagrams. The mosaic of proposals that this book offers, even if fragmented and unfinished, is already innovative when compared to the existing situation. If we follow those suggested strategic directions that enrich these proposals, the new system is capable of generating stable densification that surrounds the GRA and its knots, where in new centralities are characterised by a privileged access to the public transportation network. This entails a new order for the network services and establishes new relations available for public spaces. These are no longer defined by the linear geometry of streets and squares belonging to traditional cities. They are no longer megastructures, but discrete ideas, multi layers ganglions characterised by different functions and innovative technologies developed along the infrastructural knots. This system contributes to the redevelopment of suburban and peripheral settlements by enforcing the public transportation routes. These can be guide sections for the morphologic unity and new engines for the economical development. Moreover this system can establish new and better values for landscape, historical, natural and archaeological sources of the urban countryside by focusing on the redevelopment of slow circuits and on the improvement of agriculture activities. The agriculture development is one of the key factors for the preservation of environmental and landscape values. Installing devices for the production of sustainable energy and entertainment agriculture is capable of producing a synergy between scientific research and agricultural activities.
