Per una teoria del rilievo architettonico

What is the architectural survey? As I have previously said, it seems to me that the best way to define this important activity of the architect who deals with historical buildings is to answer: it is the reconstruction of the project. This definition may certainly appear simplistic, but it has the advantage to be immediate. The architectural survey, in fact, is evidently an inverse process, in which, starting from an existing manufactured product, is reconstructed the project drawings necessary to carry it out, as it is now, and to interpret the project idea, which almost never coincide exactly with its realization.
