Pecore e lupi rapaci: il dibattito intorno a Mt 7,15-16 nel cristianesimo africano del IV/Vs.

The African church between the fourth and fifth century was troubled by a deep crisis and was divided into two opposing sides. Catholics and Donatists both claimed for himself the title of the only true church, rejecting on the opponents the accusations of falsehood and unworthiness. This controversy targeted mainly though not exclusively at the clergy. In the related debate the quote of Mt 7.15 played a major role often with implications for the definition of identity. This article goes back to the steps of the opposing exegeses and their later developments during the Vandal persecution.

La chiesa africana fra IV e V secolo fu scossa da una crisi profonda, trovandosi divisa su fronti opposti. Partito cattolico e donatista rivendicarono ciascuno per sé il titolo di unica e vera Chiesa, rigettando sull’avversario accuse di falsità e indegnità. Questa polemica riguardò in misura significativa, anche se non esclusiva, il clero e, nel dibattito che ne derivò, Mt 7,15 venne a giocare un ruolo di netto rilievo, non di rado con risvolti di carattere identitario.
