N. Boccella Growth and Inequality Theoretical Issues and Empirical Evidence Abstract This chapeter analyses the relationship between growth and inequality offering a wide and comprehensive overview of recent and innovative contributes both in the theoretical literature and the empirical studies. In particulra will be examined first the classical view according to which inequality increases in the earlier steps of development and decreases in the lates and, then, the modern approach, which considers a wider perspective like the effect of initial level of income inequality or the bad effects of polarization. Then is presented a review of both some recent empirical studies and new theoretical perspective and methodological issues of the debate on the relation between growth and equity, also with respect to the globalization process, which appears complex and too difficult for unique perspective. A review of the different indexes of inequality and dataset available in also presented.
