An Update to English by Tutorial

Tutorial Update, by Janet Bowker, is an update of material included in the innovatory English course English by Tutorial, produced by Derrick Plant and Janet Bowker. The course is aimed at reversing much of the scholastic English experienced by Italian University students, working, instead, from understanding speech first of all, to developing an increasingly wide repertoire of spoken skills. It introduced a novel combination of self-study, distance learning experiences with small, Tutorial discussion groups. The Entry Test and Exit Test, written exclusively by Janet Bowker, were to provide a significant basis for today’s computer-based English testing in use in the Faculty of Economics, Sapienza University of Rome.
