Hebrew Scholasticism in the Fifteenth Century. A History and Source Book

The work provides a first attempt at historical presentation of the "Jewish School", as occurred in the Catalan-Aragonese and in Northern between 1450 and about 1500. After a historical phenomenon, the book presents the figure, the work and the content of some texts of the major Jewish philosophers belonging to this group. Of these texts, hitherto unpublished, it offers a more or less adapted into English, with notes that emphasize scholastic Latin sources they used. It finally presents the edition of some parts of them, in their original Hebrew texts. L’opera offre un primo tentativo storico di presentazione della “Scolastica ebraica”, così come si è verificata nell’area catalano-aragonese e nell’Italia del Nord tra il 1450 e il 1500 circa. Dopo un’introduzione storica del fenomeno, il libro presenta la figura, l’opera e i contenuti di alcuni testi dei principali filosofi ebrei appartenenti a questo gruppo. Di questi testi, finora inediti, si offre una versione più o meno adattata in inglese, con note di commento che ne sottolineano le fonti della Scolastica latina da essi impiegate. Si presenta infine l’edizione di alcune parti di essi, nei loro testi originali ebraici.
