This volume, characterised by many and detailed graphic and cartographic elaborations, presents the results of a study conducted on the mountain municipalities of Molise Region with an altitude above or equal to 800 metres and therefore with remarkable geomorphological and climatic handicap. The attention is focussed on the problems and perspectives of a study area which requires particular strategies and interventions ad hoc. The methodological approach is characterised by a combination and elaboration of many official data, by a wide literature review, by the use of specific questionnaires for the mayor of the municipalities involved and for the tourists, by many field studies which have permitted to collect an important photograph archive. This research provides quantitative and interpretative analysis, planning and operative hypotheses, and written evidence and reports in order to form a framework which could be used for supporting decisions and concrete strategies. In particular, this study produces a statistical and critical analysis of the short and long-term social-demographic, tourist and economic data. Subsequently, the study underlines the main problems and perspectives of the different municipalities and defines plans both for single municipalities and for all the study area considered as a whole system. In the following stage, the research provides a synthesis of the declarations of the mayors directly interviewed, and a series of critical interpretations of the evidence provided by numerous tourists. Thus, the study performes an analysis of strong and weak points and various inputs to define priorities, to promote a participatory and shared planning, to support geo-economical and marketing solutions, to favour suitable promotional activities and to develop tourism and other economic sectors according to the opportunities available.
