Through meticulous research of primary sources - largely constituted by translations of Western economic and only to a lesser extent from the original texts written by Western authors or Chinese Chinese language - the work reconstructs the gradual process that led to the introduction and spread of Western economic theory in China during the nineteenth century. In addition to texts rather known as the Fuguoce and Fuguo yangmince, the volume examines some sources previously unknown to Sinology, as the Zhifu Xinshu. The selected works are analyzed from the point of view of content that lexical, so as to trace the development of ideas and the language that ensued.
Attraverso una meticolosa ricerca delle fonti primarie - costituite in larga parte da traduzioni di testi economici occidentali e solo in parte minore da testi originali scritti da autori occidentali o cinesi in lingua cinese - l'opera ricostruisce il graduale processo che portò all'introduzione e alla diffusione della teoria economica occidentale in Cina durante il XIX secolo. Oltre a testi piuttosto noti come il Fuguoce ed il Fuguo yangmince, il volume prende in esame alcune fonti finora sconosciute alla sinologia, come il Zhifu xinshu. Le opere selezionate vengono analizzate sia dal punto di vista contenutistico che lessicale, così da ripercorrere lo sviluppo delle idee e quello della lingua che ne conseguì.
