An investigation has been carried out on the shoreline changes during the last hundred years along the Thyrrhenian coast of Calabria, stretching for about 80 km, from the mouth of the Savuto River to Vaticano Cape. A remarkable difference was pointet out between the trend of shoreline changes during the period 1870-1954 and the more recent 1954-1985. The first period was marked by a general progression of the shoreline, while the second by a strong recession. Close connections were identified between erosional phenomena which involved St. Eufemia Gulf and man's activities on territory.
