BIO50}hotel was a temporary exhibition project established at MAO - Museum of Architecture and Design of Ljubljana during BIO50 24th Biennial of Design curated by Jan Boelen. As a part of the research theme nanotourism mentored by Tina Gregorič and Aljoša Dekleva, BIO50}hotel responded to the open call by critically challenging the tourism connected to BIO50 and actively interfering with its curatorial approach. Participants were hosted in the museum free of charge and asked to contribute to the Biennial in return by actively participating in BIO50 events or by suggesting their own lectures, exhibitions, round tables and workshops among others. Furthermore, they took part in a 1:1 action by organizing their accommodation, repositioning, using and testing the exhibited items to confront the generic hotel room setup. Nowadays traveling is a must but resources and free time are often limited. Implying an investment of money and time, tourists’ demands are often connected to possible opportunities instead of mere entertainment. BIO50}hotel questioned the definition of tourists, generally without interaction with the local community and environment, by focusing on the concept of exchange. BIO50}hotel defined an interactive relation between the Biennial and the visitors, considering a mutual exchange of contents as a potential for critical interpretations of the exhibition as well as a platform for multiple connections and new contents.https://bio50hotel-blog.tumblr.com/ https://50.bio.si/en/
