Generative AI technologies are transforming how human bodies become visible, recognizable, and vulnerable. Among them, non-consensual deepfake pornography represents a paradigmatic form of synthetic violence: by manipulating images, it severs the body from its intentionality and reshapes its social meaning. This paper approaches the phenomenon through a relational and enactive ethics, interpreting synthetic violence as a breakdown of participatory sense-making – the embodied process through which meaning is co-created in interaction. After reconstructing the grammar of this violence and its perceptual implications, the discussion turns to two case studies – the journalist Rana Ayyub and the documentary Another Body – to show how the same technologies that inflict harm can also become tools for resistance and collective repair.

Abstract
Generative AI technologies are transforming how human bodies become visible, recognizable, and vulnerable. Among them, non-consensual deepfake pornography represents a paradigmatic form of synthetic violence: by manipulating images, it severs the body from its intentionality and reshapes its social meaning. This paper approaches the phenomenon through a relational and enactive ethics, interpreting synthetic violence as a breakdown of participatory sense-making – the embodied process through which meaning is co-created in interaction. After reconstructing the grammar of this violence and its perceptual implications, the discussion turns to two case studies – the journalist Rana Ayyub and the documentary Another Body – to show how the same technologies that inflict harm can also become tools for resistance and collective repair.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
