The book offers a theoretical reflection on sociology as conceptual knowledge, understood not simply as an empirical discipline, but as a perspective capable of analysing the processes through which concepts are culturally formed in relation to historical and social conditions. Drawing on Simmel, Comte, and Durkheim, it seeks to understand how concepts are neither individual nor abstract products, but rather “social facts”: collective elaborations that emerge from the interaction between mental structures and historical contexts. The book reconstructs sociology’s epistemological turn, showing how the discipline moved beyond metaphysical and transcendental conceptions of knowledge to affirm the historicity and relativity of thought. Through a dialogue with Weber, Mannheim, Bourdieu, Luhmann, and Elias, it outlines a genuine “sociology of concepts”, in which theoretical production itself is understood as an integral part of the social processes it seeks to comprehend. Sociology thus emerges as a reflexive and constructive practice: a discipline that, by analysing the social genesis of the categories of thought, helps to make visible the opacity of social relations and to illuminate the profoundly social nature of human thought.

Abstract
Sociology thus emerges as a reflexive and constructive practice: a discipline that, by analysing the social genesis of the categories of thought, helps to make visible the opacity of social relations and to illuminate the profoundly social nature of human thought.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
