This study tests four non-invasive or minimally invasive sampling techniques for ZooMS-based taxonomic identification of highly fragmented faunal remains from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The analyses identified Bos sp., Equus sp., Capra hircus, and Vulpes vulpes. The results show that the bag and eraser-crumb methods are effective non-invasive alternatives, while extraction from minute bone chips generally provides higher taxonomic resolution.
Il contributo sperimenta l’efficacia di quattro tecniche di campionamento non invasive o minimamente invasive per l’identificazione tassonomica tramite ZooMS di resti faunistici altamente frammentati provenienti dal Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme. L’analisi ha permesso di riconoscere Bos sp., Equus sp., Capra hircus e Vulpes vulpes. I risultati indicano che il bag method e le briciole di gomma sono valide alternative non invasive, mentre l’estrazione da piccoli frammenti ossei offre generalmente una maggiore risoluzione tassonomica.
