EXPANDING LAYERS OF KNOWLEDGE. Research, Innovation and Perspectives on Tangible Cultural Heritage

This volume presents the outcomes of the Study Days Layers of Knowledge. Space, Time, and Meaning, held in Venosa in December 2025 as the concluding event of the activities developed within Spoke 8 – Sustainability and Resilience of Tangible Cultural Heritage of the PNRR Extended Partnership PE5 CHANGES. Bringing together contributions from project partners and researchers involved in the cascade-call initiatives, the volume reflects on the multiple ways in which tangible cultural heritage can be investigated, documented, interpreted, managed, and enhanced. The collected research combines archaeological, architectural, historical, technological, and humanistic approaches, with particular attention to georeferencing, digital inventories, temporal stratifications, semantic integration, and intelligent information systems. Alongside technological innovation, the contributions address communities, governance, value creation, sustainability, and resilience, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary and participatory models. The volume thus moves beyond the documentation of a research programme to explore how knowledge infrastructures, digital methodologies, and collaborative practices can support new forms of heritage understanding and management. The choice of Venosa as the venue further underscores the role of cultural heritage in strengthening the visibility and resilience of territories beyond established centres of attraction. Through the dialogue generated during the Study Days, the volume identifies networks, methodologies, and shared knowledge as a lasting legacy of Spoke 8 and as a basis for future research trajectories.
