Although relations between Italy and Argentina began in the 18th century, it wasn’t until the early 19th century that closer ties were established after the country gained its independence. Many Italian designers were invited to take part in the creation of this nation state by taking part in the construction of the country’s major public buildings. The classical, renaissance-inspired style adopted by these professionals became the signature style of official buildings and a reference for private homes. Between the late 19th and early 20th century, more and more Italians arrived, including workmen who built minor architecture, but who inputted decisively into the architectural transformation of Argentine cities, especially Buenos Aires. Relations between Italy and Argentina went from strength to strength and Italian culture still exerts a strong influence over Argentina’s architectural heritage.

Sebbene le relazioni tra l’Italia e l’Argentina abbiano avuto inizio nel XVIII secolo, fu solo all’inizio del XIX secolo che si instaurarono legami più stretti, dopo che il Paese ottenne l’indipendenza. Molti progettisti italiani furono invitati a partecipare alla creazione di questo Stato nazionale, contribuendo alla realizzazione dei principali edifici pubblici del Paese. Lo stile classico, di ispirazione rinascimentale, adottato da questi professionisti divenne lo stile distintivo degli edifici ufficiali e un punto di riferimento per le abitazioni private. Le relazioni tra Italia e Argentina si rafforzarono sempre più e la cultura italiana esercita tuttora una forte influenza sul patrimonio architettonico argentino.
