Ricerche a Çuka e Ajtoit

This contribution provides a concise overview of the field research results at the site of Çuka e Ajtoit, located in southern Albania, conducted by the Albanian Archaeological Institute and Sapienza University of Rome. The site is notable for its Hellenistic polygonal fortifications, a terraced residential complex known as “the Palace,” necropolises, a Middle Byzantine church, and a small Venetian- Ottoman village. The new archaeological investigations adopt a diachronic approach that considers the entire territory. Although defined as a “minor” site compared to the Epirote cities, it offers valuable insights into settlement patterns, political, religious, and economic organization, as well as territorial control dynamics over more than two millennia.
