Selezione e posizione degli elementi di reimpiego nelle tessiture murarie. Osservazioni su alcuni esempi in area romana fra XII e XIV secolo

The essay describes the practice of re-use in the equipment walls in Rome and in the Roman area in the Middle Ages. The phenomenon of recovery and related forms of recycling and reuse of old materials in the course of the Middle Ages was, as noted, a great development in Rome, in the presence of a large number of Roman buildings and the materials extracted from ancient buildings were in fact used for new construction or reconstruction in the city and its surroundings, or exported for the construction of buildings in other cities of the Patrimony of St. Peter and beyond those boundaries. The re-use in masonry structures has been addressed from the point of view of the organization of the methods used in most parts of the present volume. This aspect is a component of the broader and more complex issue of the use of recovered materials in architecture in which the reuse and recycling of old pieces was married, between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, with the rules and customs of the building walls and then with the tradition of technical and executive teams of bricklayers and stonemasons who led the late medieval sites in Rome and its surroundings. The re-use and re-use of old materials presupposed an adequate and consistent organization of the yard mendievale and a selection of the same pieces that were to be reused.

Il saggio descrive la pratica del reimpiego nelle apparecchiature murarie in Roma e in area romana nel medioevo. Il fenomeno del recupero e delle relative forme di riciclo e reimpiego dei materiali antichi nel corso del medioevo ebbe, come noto, un grande sviluppo in Roma, per la presenza di un notevole numero di edifici romani ; i materiali estratti dagli edifici antichi erano infatti utilizzati per le nuove costruzioni o ricostruzioni in città e nei suoi dintorni, o esportati per la realizzazione di edifici in altri centri del Patrimonio di S. Pietro e oltre tali confini . Il reimpiego nelle strutture murarie è stato affrontato sotto il punto di vista dell’organizzazione delle modalità di realizzazione in più parti del presente volume. Questo aspetto costituisce una componente del più ampio e complesso tema dell’uso del materiale recuperato in architettura nel quale il reimpiego e il riciclo di pezzi antichi è stato coniugato, fra XII e XIV secolo, con le regole e le consuetudini della costruzione muraria e quindi con la tradizione tecnico-esecutiva di squadre di muratori e scalpellini che conducevano i cantieri basso medievali in Roma e nei suoi dintorni. Il reimpiego e riuso dei materiali antichi presupponevano un'adeguata e congruente organizzazione del cantiere mendievale e una selezione degli stessi pezzi che dovevano essere reimpiegati.
