The unfinished finished

This foreword reflects on the conditions that hinder or enable post-disaster reconstruction, identifying the misreading of available resources, sterile attachment to loss, and the abandonment of affected places as major obstacles, while recognising work, shared future-making, and community vitality as the true foundations of recovery. Against any purely symbolic or authorial conception of architecture, the text argues for a contextual and cooperative approach, capable of engaging social, economic, and spatial realities within fragile territories. Emergency architecture is thus framed as an open and processual practice: one that reads limits and resources critically, develops alternative and reversible scenarios, and leaves room for experiential learning, collective participation, and future transformation.
