Il Palazzo dei Consoli di Bevagna

The emergence of municipal autonomy in Bevagna is documented from the late 12th century, while the current Palazzo dei Consoli likely dates to the second half of the 13th century. Located on the western side of Piazza F. Silvestri and positioned obliquely to the church of S. Silvestro (completed in 1195), part of the palace may have been built contemporaneously with the church. Despite renovations and restorations, the building preserves original elements: rectangular plan, cuboid shape, portico on two sides, and cross-vaulted ceilings on the ground floor. In the 18th century, it was adapted as a municipal theater, modifying the main staircase and hall; later, it hosted prisons and the public archive. The corner tower and two-level bifora windows reflect the construction phases and post-earthquake modifications of 1832.
