What happens to literature when the Anthropocene is no longer merely a descriptive category, but a profound transformation in our ways of knowing, feeling, imagining, and inhabiting the world? How can the contemporary novel respond to a crisis that calls into question the boundaries between human and nonhuman, nature and culture, matter and discourse? Situated at the core of debates in the Environmental Humanities and theoretical reflections on the Anthropocene, the book weaves together ecocriticism and new materialisms to investigate the epistemological and formal transformations triggered by the current ecological crisis, and to offer conceptual tools for understanding it. Through a comparative analysis of narrative strategies in contemporary European and Anglophone fiction—from the redefinition of realism to the use of metalepsis, from forms of the ecological sublime to the reorganization of temporal and spatial scales—the literary field emerges as a privileged critical space for rendering thinkable the performative and processual dimensions of the Anthropocene, a site of ongoing exploration of the relationships between forms of knowledge and the environment.

Abstract
Through a comparative analysis of narrative strategies in contemporary European and Anglophone fiction—from the redefinition of realism to the use of metalepsis, from forms of the ecological sublime to the reorganization of temporal and spatial scales—the literary field emerges as a privileged critical space for rendering thinkable the performative and processual dimensions of the Anthropocene, a site of ongoing exploration of the relationships between forms of knowledge and the environment.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
