Alpine tourism, developed between the 1950s and 1970s, represents a compelling laboratory for observing contemporary urban forms. Within this process, two distinct models emerge: on the one hand, the transformation of historical settlements into tourist towns such as Cortina d’Ampezzo, Madonna di Campiglio, or Chamonix, where growth occurs through stratification and adaptation of pre-existing fabrics; on the other hand, the ex novo foundation of tourist cities, such as Avoriaz, Les Arcs, and Flaine in France, or Laax in Switzerland, conceived according to principles of integrated planning and functional autonomy.

Abstract
Alpine tourism, developed between the 1950s and 1970s, represents a compelling laboratory for observing contemporary urban forms. Within this process, two distinct models emerge: on the one hand, the transformation of historical settlements into tourist towns such as Cortina d’Ampezzo, Madonna di Campiglio, or Chamonix, where growth occurs through stratification and adaptation of pre-existing fabrics; on the other hand, the ex novo foundation of tourist cities, such as Avoriaz, Les Arcs, and Flaine in France, or Laax in Switzerland, conceived according to principles of integrated planning and functional autonomy.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
