How will we live tomorrow, and who will be the protagonists of the cities of the future? What will form the bedrock of our society? What idea of community will our homes and neighbourhoods express? The Hunziker Areal, located in northern Zurich, offers potential answers to these crucial questions - questions that should guide every residential development. The very name of the project and its promoting consortium, Mehr als Wohnen (More than Housing), sets out a clear vision: to move beyond the mere construction of affordable housing and address the most pressing cultural challenges of our time in an integrated way, from the right to housing and the right to the city, to the overall quality of urban life. The result is a model of living that is rooted in, educates towards, and nurtures a concept of community inspired by values of solidarity, integration, and active participation, while safeguarding individual autonomy.

Come vivremo domani e chi saranno i protagonisti delle città del futuro? Quale sarà il nucleo fondante della società? Quale idea di comunità esprimeranno la nostra casa e il nostro quartiere? L’Hunziker Areal, realizzato a nord di Zurigo, offre alcune possibili risposte a questi interrogativi cruciali, che dovrebbero orientare ogni progetto di insediamento residenziale. Già il nome del progetto e del consorzio promotore, Mehr als Wohnen (Più che abitare), delinea un programma chiaro: andare oltre la mera costruzione di alloggi a canoni moderati per affrontare in modo integrato le sfide culturali più urgenti del nostro tempo, dal diritto all’abitare al diritto alla città fino alla qualità della vita urbana.
