The ritual system and certain cults, including the imperial cult, are illustrated through epigraphic material. In particular, the theme of dedication to the deity as a tool of political action by the city community towards various categories of protectors, from divine to heroic to human, will be addressed. This will range from dedications in which the emperor is associated with the main deity of the polis and is himself deified, to ritual contexts in which the name and memory of a city benefactor are associated with those of a deity. The epigraphic documentation reveals the deep connection between rituals and the urban landscape, the importance of cult in urban planning and its monumentality.

Abstract
The ritual system and certain cults, including the imperial cult, are illustrated through epigraphic material. In particular, the theme of dedication to the deity as a tool of political action by the city community towards various categories of protectors, from divine to heroic to human, will be addressed. This will range from dedications in which the emperor is associated with the main deity of the polis and is himself deified, to ritual contexts in which the name and memory of a city benefactor are associated with those of a deity. The epigraphic documentation reveals the deep connection between rituals and the urban landscape, the importance of cult in urban planning and its monumentality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
