Although she is one of the most important names in contemporary Turkish literature, Adalet Ağaoğlu's recognition among the Italian public has only occurred within the last decade. In fact, Italian interest in the Turkish novel has increased significantly, particularly over the last twenty years. In this context, Italian readers have encountered both new-generation novelists and more classic works for the first time. This short section aims to present the process of translating Adalet Ağaoğlu’s novels Ölmeye Yatmak and Bir Düğün Gecesi into Italian. In doing so, the place of Adalet Ağaoğlu’s translated works within Turkish literature and the perception of her works in Italy will be evaluated. Drawing on our experiences as the translators of the novels Ölmeye Yatmak (Coricarsi e morire, 2017) and Bir Düğün Gecesi (Notte di nozze, 2018), we will focus on the main challenges encountered in presenting these two works to the Italian public and the proposed solutions. Finally, some reflections will be offered on how Adalet Ağaoğlu’s two works were received by Italian readers and the press, as well as on their contradictory effects regarding interest in Turkish literature.
