Naturae modus ovvero “La natura, metro di tutto?” Limiti e misure, saggezza e vita tra Orazio e Augusto

This article aims to focus on some general aspects related to the term and concept of nature in Roman culture during the age of Augustus. It therefore concentrates on the two representative figures of Horace and Augustus himself, with the goal of better understanding certain specific expressions of their thought and, at the same time, grasping ideas of wide circulation which, in all probability, belonged to the common mentality of the Roman intellectual class between the late 1st century BC and the early 1st century AD.

Il contributo si propone di mettere a fuoco alcuni aspetti generali relativi al termine e al concetto di natura nella cultura romana dell’età di Augusto. Si concentra quindi sulle due rappresentative personalità di Orazio e di Augusto stesso, con l’obiettivo di meglio comprendere alcune specifiche espressioni del loro pensiero e, al contempo, cogliere delle idee di ampia circolazione che appartenevano, verosimilmente, alla mentalità comune del ceto intellettuale romano tra fine I sec. a.C. e inizio I sec. d.C.
