Carticity and “Zones”: Mapping the Unmappable in the Poetry of Paul Celan Drawing on the concept of Kartizität (carticity) developed by Robert Stockhammer and Federico Italiano, this study explores the paradoxical mapping of the “unmappable” within Paul Celan’s poetic corpus and its broader implications for contemporary German-language literature. Moving beyond traditional Cartesian and referential representations, the analysis adopts a geopoetic and geodesic perspective to investigate "Critical Zones"—multilayered, dynamic, and porous spaces that extend from the depths of the earth to the sky. This approach emphasizes a "creatural" perception where the subject’s "angle of inclination" (Neigungswinkel) serves as a vector for orientation, revealing the Earth’s instability and its nomadic movement through space. Central to this discussion is the term Gelände, interpreted as an indefinite, borderless territory of genesis and devastation where memory fragments emerge from the "cleft of time". The research further illustrates the "Cartografie dell’immaginario" project, which employs "compost maps" to hybridize philological inquiry with artistic and digital practices, effectively re-semanticizing toponyms and idronyms as "non-places within places". By examining the "fluvial poems" and the "meridians" of language, the paper argues that poetry creates a "Thirdspace" where the physical constitution of the Earth, historical trauma, and human agency intersect. Ultimately, this cartopoetic endeavor seeks to provide a provisional shape to the "skin of the world," exploring the interconnections between planetary layers and the "patemic" experience of those who inhabit them

Abstract
Ultimately, this cartopoetic endeavor seeks to provide a provisional shape to the "skin of the world," exploring the interconnections between planetary layers and the "patemic" experience of those who inhabit them| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
