This article traces the historical and social roots of Songzhuang, an artistic and cultural hub on the outskirts of Beijing. Since the early 1990s, Songzhuang has hosted vibrant cultural practices in cinema and contemporary art, later transforming into a State-regulated art district shaped by urbanization and demolition. The study examines the context in which the Family Lens was created a physical space that gathers over a hundred documentaries on family life, organizes media education workshops on documentary writing and production, and, through the reshaping of personal memories, fosters the emergence of individual perspectives that link the past to the present.
