Dal “castello elettrico” all’Usina del Arte. Architetture industriali della CIAE a Buenos Aires / From the “Electric Castle” to the Usina del Arte: Industrial Architectures of the CIAE in Buenos Aires

The research examines the industrial architecture of the Compañía Ítalo-Argentina de Electricidad (CIAE) in Buenos Aires, designed by architect Giovanni Chiogna beginning in 1916, with a particular focus on the Usina Pedro de Mendoza, now known as the Usina del Arte. The study investigates this phenomenon from three intertwined perspectives: historically, by reconstructing the context of urban modernization and the role of the Italian community; architecturally, through an analysis of the formal and symbolic language of the so-called Usinas, Subusinas, and Subestaciones; and methodologically, by employing integrated surveying, representation, and HBIM modeling for the documentation and enhancement of cultural heritage.

La ricerca analizza le architetture industriali della Compañía Ítalo-Argentina de Electricidad (CIAE) a Buenos Aires, progettate dall’architetto Giovanni Chiogna a partire dal 1916, con particolare attenzione al caso della Usina Pedro de Mendoza, oggi Usina del Arte. La ricerca indaga il fenomeno secondo tre prospettive: storica, ricostruendo il contesto della modernizzazione urbana e il ruolo della comunità italiana; architettonica, attraverso lo studio del linguaggio formale e simbolico delle cosiddette Unisas, Subusinas i Subestaciónes; metodologica, mediante l’impiego rilevamento integrato, rappresentazione e modellazione HBIM per la documentazione e la valorizzazione del patrimonio.
