The emerging challenges of the European Union defence policy. Some considerations on the interconnection between space and defence

On the basis of the close interplay between space and defence, this chapter will focus on one particular aspect of this relationship, namely, the space-based Global Secure Communications System. The author first gives an overview of the European Union competence in the field of space law and its interplay with space issues. Then, he analyses the development of secure connectivity assets within the EU competence in the field of space, highlighting its strategic relevance. Finally, he concludes with some legal observations on the EU Secure Connectivity Programme.
