This entry traces the evolution of the denominations used in Arabic to refer to feminism. Starting from the initial moments when the concept began to circulate in Arab contexts, namely in Egypt, at the beginning of the 20th century, the ideological implications of the apparition of new denominations are analysed. This approach is convenient to understand how the changes in the terminology have coincided with particular social, political, and historical junctures related with the evolution of feminist movements and ideas in Arab contexts. Therefore, the terminological and conceptual journey proposed by this entry is also a historical, social, political and ideological journey through the main feminist trends and movements in the Arab countries.

Abstract
This entry traces the evolution of the denominations used in Arabic to refer to feminism. Starting from the initial moments when the concept began to circulate in Arab contexts, namely in Egypt, at the beginning of the 20th century, the ideological implications of the apparition of new denominations are analysed. This approach is convenient to understand how the changes in the terminology have coincided with particular social, political, and historical junctures related with the evolution of feminist movements and ideas in Arab contexts. Therefore, the terminological and conceptual journey proposed by this entry is also a historical, social, political and ideological journey through the main feminist trends and movements in the Arab countries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
