Memorie antiche e modernità: i Torlonia e la trasformazione del suburbio romano

This paper aims to investigate the perception of the ancient, the persistence and metamorphosis of the monumental traces of the Past in a specific context, the south-eastern suburb of Rome along the Via Appia Antica. Between the XIX and early XX this area was deeply marked by the Torlonia family, whose productive and entrepreneurial needs were always placed before the protection and conservation of monuments.
