Digital platforms have had a disruptive impact on journalism, weakening its foundations in an increasingly fragmented and heterogeneous public sphere. Sociology, as a critical science attentive to relational dynamics, is crucial to understanding how they redefine processes of mediation, gatekeeping and production, practices of information distribution and consumption, and power relations between actors, including technological ones, in terms of autonomy, negotiations, and practices of resistance. This volume examines the contributions of a sociological perspective to the study of digital platforms in journalism, without betraying the multidisciplinary vocation of Journalism Studies, but rather enhancing it. Starting from a mapping and systematisation of a broad scientific literature on digital platforms, algorithms, and artificial intelligence, this analysis examines the strategies of publishers and news organisations to establish their presence on platforms and balance their power, while also considering peripheral actors attempting to intercept audiences' new media experiences. The book provides interpretative keys to understanding the evolution of this chaotic landscape, in the belief that journalism not only reflects its fractures and sometimes fuels them, but can also help heal them, remaining indispensable to the health of democratic systems.

Abstract
The book provides interpretative keys to understanding the evolution of this chaotic landscape, in the belief that journalism not only reflects its fractures and sometimes fuels them, but can also help heal them, remaining indispensable to the health of democratic systems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
