Escaping Hegel

Who would have thought that Hegel’s home would one day be transformed into a museum with an escape room? The aR convention 2024, a self-organized gathering of artists focusing on unexhibitable projects, sought to draw connections between Hegel’s dialectics, the myth of the Trojan Horse, and the city of Stuttgart—Hegel’s birthplace and a city with a deep equestrian history. Spanning a timeline from ancient Troy to modern cultural reflections, the project invites participants to reconsider ideas of infiltration and escape, both within institutional frameworks and philosophical systems. By introducing a game set in Hegel’s house, specifically in its escape room, participants are encouraged to navigate not only the physical space but also the intricate entanglements of Hegel’s thought, offering fresh insight into how one might “escape” from his dialectic without becoming ensnared by it.
