This article explores the reception of Lucretius’ De rerum natura in Giacomo Leopardi’s Saggio sopra gli errori popolari degli antichi. Through selected case studies, the analysis highlights how Leopardi accessed Lucretius primarily through Pierre Gassendi’s Syntagma philosophicum. Notably, while Leopardi draws upon these sources, he also undertakes a meticulous verification process, cross-referencing the texts with the editions available in his father’s library
