This article examines the medieval phase of Monopoli Cathedral, a subject long neglected in the historiography of Romanesque architecture in Apulia due to scarce written sources and the late discovery of the substructure remains in the 1970s. Drawing on documentary evidence, early modern testimonies, and the results of the 1986 archaeological excavations, the study reassesses the cathedral’s original configuration and situates it within the broader architectural and historical framework of twelfth-century Apulia.
