The author analyzes the iconographic plot of the Annunciation in the works of the masters of the Italian Renaissance from the perspective of creating an image of the space and atmosphere of this most important theme for the art of the Christian world. The Annunciation is an iconographic theme with not only religious and symbolic content, but also a special atmosphere that has been changing in the works of various masters of the Italian Renaissance. From conveying the natural and sentimental atmosphere that surrounds and permeates geometric constructions, cities and the living humanity of Giotto’s figures, to the fabulous atmosphere of Simone Martini’s paintings, from the geometrically pure atmosphere of Piero della Francesca’s works, to the mysterious, ambiguous and elusive atmosphere of Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings.
