This study collects and analyses various documentary sources relating to the road system of the central Zagros range in late Sasanian and early Islamic times. Focusing on the routes connecting the Mesopotamian lowlands with the regions of Shahrazur in the north and al‑Ǧabal/Ǧibāl in the east, taking as reference points the two centres of Shahrazur and Dinavar, the paper aims to define a clear picture of the communication networks across these three regions.
