Notes and subscriptions of the Nag Hammadi Codices. Questions of definition, problems of interpretation

The author provides a critical reconsideration of the recent interpretation of the notes and scribal subscriptions of the Nag Hammadi Codices as evidence in favour of the hypothesis concerning the monastic origin of the fund. While discussing the terminology commonly used when referring to these notes in light of the most recent contributions on the matter, Addessi carries out an in-depth formal and terminological analysis, in order to point out how their contribution to the hypothesis of the monastic origins is not so conclusive and, in parallel, to show the need to adopt a new perspective in the study of the scribal notes and subscriptions in the Nag Hammadi corpus.
