Bambine sulla soglia: storie di fanciulle in fiore

The editors introduce the volume Little Girls: Perception of the Feminine and the Elaboration of Models between Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The book is a continuation of a research project on childhood in ancient times that started in 2015. While there has been an increase in studies on childhood, the focus on girls, especially in ancient and medieval contexts, remains scarce. The book adopts an interdisciplinary and diachronic approach, bringing together experts from various fields to examine female childhood across different historical and cultural settings. Through case studies, it explores themes such as social roles, ritual participation, and gendered representations in mythology, art, and religious traditions. The analysis highlights both the constraints imposed on young girls and instances of agency, offering new perspectives on female identity formation over time.

Le curatrici presentano il volume “Bambine: percezione del femminile ed elaborazione di modelli tra l'antichità e il Medioevo”. Esso si pone in continuità con un progetto di ricerca sull'infanzia nell'antichità, avviatosi nel 2015. Sebbene gli studi sull'infanzia si siano incrementati negli ultimi due decenni, l'attenzione rivolta alle bambine, specialmente in contesti antichi e medievali, rimane scarsa. Il libro adotta un approccio interdisciplinare e diacronico, riunendo esperti di vari settori per esaminare l'infanzia femminile in diversi contesti storici e culturali. Attraverso casi di studio, esplora temi quali i ruoli sociali, la partecipazione ai rituali e le rappresentazioni di genere nella mitologia, nell'arte e nelle tradizioni religiose. L'analisi evidenzia sia i vincoli imposti alle ragazze sia i casi di autonomia, offrendo nuove prospettive sulla formazione dell'identità femminile nel corso del tempo.
