The text retraces the research steps undertaken to develop a monitoring system for the instruments related to the protection and potential enhancement of the territories crossed by the transhumance routes of the country. The objective is to ascertain the methods and levels of protection currently in place concerning the transhumance paths and, more broadly, the transhumance landscapes. The limits of the study area are explicitly outlined, a scientific framework is sketched, the methodology is clarified, and the reference sources are detailed. The monitoring focuses on the leading territorial authorities in Italy with jurisdiction over landscape matters. It is carried out by applying the same structure and hierarchy of investigation to each authority. The structure and hierarchical levels are defined based on the contributions presented in the first and second parts of the volume, following the provisions ex dlgs. 42/2004 art. art. 143, concerning the Landscape Plan. The monitoring, while disappointing in terms of the levels of binding regulations applied, nonetheless offers valuable insights. Regarding the awareness present within the cognitive frameworks, there emerges the possibility of envisioning a policy aimed at raising the levels of protection for transhumance structures, considered as an integrated system.
