Fear and Trembling is perhaps Søren Kierkegaard's most fascinating and disturbing writing. Enigmatic, paradoxical in its very lyrical-religious form, it takes as its theme the shocking scene of Isaac's sacrifice, focusing in particular on Abraham's silence. Ludovico Battista sheds light on the work's deeper meaning by reconstructing its entire theological background for the first time: Paul's Christological apocalypse, restored through the mediation of Augustine, Luther and Pascal. It thus becomes possible to trace the origin of the key theme of the secret and mysterious gap between the religious stage of life and the ethical one, at the basis of all Kierkegaardian philosophy: the mysterium tremendum of the revelation of grace. In fact, only the thought of gratuitousness, founded in the Pauline proclamation of the cross as an absurd event of gift, attainable only by faith and scandalous for reason, allows us to understand the patho-logical and sacrificial conception of Kierkegaard's Christian message. Thus emerges the singular Kierkegaardian testimony of secularisation as the agony and historical passion of Christianity: this, in its self-deconstruction, is fulfilled in an apocalypse of metaphysics and the political, which opens them up to an impossible, insane logic of the absolute sacrifice of love.

Abstract
Thus emerges the singular Kierkegaardian testimony of secularisation as the agony and historical passion of Christianity: this, in its self-deconstruction, is fulfilled in an apocalypse of metaphysics and the political, which opens them up to an impossible, insane logic of the absolute sacrifice of love.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
