GRAF_I. La rappresentazione per la narrazione della cultura immateriale

The theme of ‘taking care’ of something, as an act of safeguarding the thing itself, is an activity that implies an acknowledgement and a consequent design action, which will determine its course from then on. In this context, Drawing is a discipline through which it is possible to acknowledge, determine, and consequently valorise and safeguard an asset (a monument, a work of art, nature, something intangible up to entire cities and landscapes). GRAPHics of Immateriality (GRAF_I) is an initiative that interprets the theme of taking care as an opportunity to safeguard, preserve, and disseminate the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Intangible Cultural Heritage includes not only monuments and collections of objects but, as determined by UNESCO, also ‘traditions, practices, representations, expressions, knowledge and know-how that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognise’. GRAF_I proposes to reflect on the theme of taking care of the Intangible Cultural Heritage through the instruments of the disciplines of Representation. Intangibility, defined as what has neither form nor substance, concerns Cultural Heritage linked to ideas, lifestyles, craftsmanship, constructive knowledge, lived history, traditions, and the imagination of local communities. The valorisation of these aspects becomes fundamental in maintaining cultural diversity, as opposed to an increasingly pervasive globalisation, in order to ensure an intercultural dialogue of life and traditions. In this context, the importance of intangible culture is not to be found in the cultural manifestation per se, but rather in the wealth of knowledge and its capacity to be passed on from one generation to the next. Drawing, in this context, with the production of images and models, representations and communications, can be a language through which we can take care of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, fulfilling the task of preserving, enhancing, and passing it on. For this purpose, a Call for Images is proposed to the scientific community with the aim of collecting and disseminating Drawing methods and techniques which are capable of representing concepts, ideas, and narratives about Heritage. They bestow form and image to the intangible, fulfilling the task of communicating this one through graphic representation.

Il tema del “prendersi cura” di qualcosa, come atto di salvaguardia della cosa stessa, è un'attività che implica una presa di coscienza e una conseguente azione progettuale, la quale ne determinerà la traiettoria da lì in avanti. In questo contesto, il Disegno è una disciplina per mezzo della quale è possibile riconoscere, valorizzare e salvaguardare un bene: un monumento, un'opera d’arte, la natura, qualcosa di intangibile fino ad intere città e paesaggi. GRAFie dell’Immaterialità (GRAF_I) è un'iniziativa che interpreta il tema del prendersi cura come opportunità per la salvaguardia, la conservazione e la divulgazione del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale. Quest'ultimo non comprende solo monumenti e collezioni di oggetti ma, come definito dall'UNESCO, anche “tradizioni, prassi, rappresentazioni, espressioni, conoscenze e know-how che le comunità, i gruppi e, in alcuni casi, gli individui riconoscono”. GRAF_I propone di riflettere sul tema della cura del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale attraverso gli strumenti propri delle discipline della rappresentazione. L’immaterialità, definita come ciò che non ha forma né sostanza, riguarda il Patrimonio Culturale legato al pensiero, al modo di vita, al sapere artigiano, al sapere costruttivo, alla storia vissuta, alle tradizioni e all’immaginario delle comunità locali. La valorizzazione di tali aspetti diviene fondamentale nel mantenimento della diversità culturale, in contrapposizione a una globalizzazione sempre più pervasiva, al fine di garantire un dialogo interculturale di vita e tradizioni. In questo contesto, l’importanza della cultura immateriale non è da ricercarsi nella manifestazione culturale in sé e per sé, quanto più nella ricchezza delle conoscenze e nella capacità di queste ultime di essere trasmesse da una generazione all'altra. Il Disegno, in questo contesto, con la produzione di immagini e modelli, rappresentazioni e comunicazioni, può essere un linguaggio attraverso cui prendersi cura del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale assolvendo al compito di conservare, valorizzare e tramandare quest'ultimo. Con questo fine si propone alla comunità scientifica una Call for Images con l’obiettivo di raccogliere e divulgare metodi e tecniche del Disegno che siano capaci di rappresentare concetti, idee e narrazioni sul Patrimonio, dando forma e immagine all’immateriale assolvendo al compito di comunicare quest'ultimo attraverso la rappresentazione grafica.
