This article aims to investigate how Italian political parties faced and viewed the first international political elections in History in the framework of the main transformations triggered by the crises of the 1970s. The new course of the European Community was interpreted by them as a chance and a path to solve the country’s domestic problems, a consequence of the growing impact of the global crisis. This helps to explain the peculiar cross-party Europeanist orientation of all Italian political parties.
