Large European cities are challenged in creative and open responses to the impact of migrants in transit and the multi-identities of permanent residents. The research – centered on the case study of the areas around Termini Station in Rome – attempts to provide both a methodological and operational response to the growing need for spaces for cultural and religious cohabitation. With the support of the social sciences, the architect is indeed asked to envision urban scenarios for the plural city.

Abstract

Large European cities are challenged in creative and open responses to the impact of migrants in transit and the multi-identities of permanent residents. The research – centered on the case study of the areas around Termini Station in Rome – attempts to provide both a methodological and operational response to the growing need for spaces for cultural and religious cohabitation. With the support of the social sciences, the architect is indeed asked to envision urban scenarios for the plural city.
