The paper aims to propose an analysis of the concept of vision as intended by Iris Murdoch in relation to attention and imagination as tools for realism. According to Murdoch, Ethics should not be confined to the act of making choices and having intentions, as the context of one’s life holds significant importance in moral deliberation. By extending the gaze, vision avoids the flattening of moral life exclusively on the terrain of contingency. Furthermore, the paper will also analyse the famous “D & M example” in order to demonstrate how the concept of vision is, in Murdoch’s view, a path to fully embrace the complexity of Reality

Abstract
The paper aims to propose an analysis of the concept of vision as intended by Iris Murdoch in relation to attention and imagination as tools for realism. According to Murdoch, Ethics should not be confined to the act of making choices and having intentions, as the context of one’s life holds significant importance in moral deliberation. By extending the gaze, vision avoids the flattening of moral life exclusively on the terrain of contingency. Furthermore, the paper will also analyse the famous “D & M example” in order to demonstrate how the concept of vision is, in Murdoch’s view, a path to fully embrace the complexity of Reality| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
