Le cappelle laterali alla tribuna della chiesa del Gesù in Roma - The side chapels of the tribune of the Gesù Church in Roma

As part of a documentation and survey campaign that identified a series of Late-Renaissance chapels located inside some churches in the historic centre of Rome as the subject of investigation, we illustrate, in particular, some results of the investigations conducted on the two chapels arranged on the sides of the presbytery of the Church of Santissimo Nome di Gesù. Starting from an integrated survey of shape and size, the aim was both to investigate the formal configuration underlying the layout of the chapels by tracing their generating criteria, and to restore their perceptive qualities (visual appearance), thus trying to highlight the relationship between the architecture and the decorative-pictorial system as well as to identify the presence of any specific elements.

Nell’ambito di una campagna di documentazione e rilievo che ha individuato come tema di indagine una serie di cappelle tardo rinascimentali collocate all’interno di alcune chiese del centro storico di Roma si illustrano, in particolare, alcuni esiti delle indagini condotte sulle due cappelle disposte ai fianchi del presbiterio della chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Gesù. A partire da un rilievo integrato della forma e della dimensione, si è mirato sia ad indagare la configurazione-formale sottesa all’impianto delle cappelle rintracciandone i criteri generatori, sia a restituirne le qualità percettive (apparenza visiva) cercando quindi di evidenziare la relazione tra architettura e sistema decorativo-pittorico nonché di individuare la presenza di eventuali elementi di specificità.
