The papyri have considerably improved our knowledge of Greek popular mime in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. However, topics such as the circulation and the transmission of written texts have so far received less attention than expected, mainly owing to the belief that the papyri carry scripts conceived for staging. In fact, they raise many questions about the popularity of mime texts among the general reading public, and about their transmission. This paper aims to reassess some of those issues by focusing on selected papyrus manuscripts of the Roman period.

Abstract
The papyri have considerably improved our knowledge of Greek popular mime in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. However, topics such as the circulation and the transmission of written texts have so far received less attention than expected, mainly owing to the belief that the papyri carry scripts conceived for staging. In fact, they raise many questions about the popularity of mime texts among the general reading public, and about their transmission. This paper aims to reassess some of those issues by focusing on selected papyrus manuscripts of the Roman period.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
